I dedicate this column to the first South African Football Association (SAFA) National Executive Committee member to have came out of the Overstrand Municipal area and head a key Bafana Bafana delegation. A role model and a dear friend to me but yet a football supporter enemy. A principal of note at Lukhunyo Primary School (Zwelihle). Yes, I am talking of the No.1 Sundowns football club supporter in the Western Cape who recently celebrated his birthday. Mr. Tshabalala, happy birthday.
I dedicate this column to Gio Aplon, the Hawston rugby hero. As I write this column, the Springboks are collecting our 2011 Rugby World Cup trophy in New Zealand. I just want to celebrate our own so that the world will know that the Whales and I, made Gio Aplon. As Hawstoniars would say, bring it home “my ma se kind”!
A special column to a great chief, a true General, an honest straightforward leader, a husband to my mother’s (Elizabeth Klaas), best friend (Marianne “Mathabo” Beyleveldt), the ex-mayor of the Overstrand, a political mentor to some, a true statesman to many and No.2 supporter for my “xhosa for non-xhosas column”.
