Whale Coast 96 FM

Your Community Radio Station

Introducing Radio as an Advertising Medium

Whale Coast FM is a Community Radio Station broadcasting to the towns of Betty's Bay, Kleinmond, Bot River, Hermanus, Stanford and Gansbaai in the Overstrand. The On-Air studio is based centrally at the Hemel-en-Aarde Village, and the station broadcasts for a total of 18 hours per day.

The content consists of live programming which includes Phone-Ins, Interviews, News, Weather, Eco-Reports, Birding Reports, Art, Culture and a variety of other interesting programmes. At other times, Whale Coast FM plays a mix of local (as in Overberg), National and International music to keep the listeners entertained.

The Whale Coast FM presenters are dedicated to keeping the listeners informed, educated and entertained. We trust that you will tune in to 96FM, and if we can help you in promoting your product or service, please feel free to call us on (028) 312-2314.

Advantages

From an advertising point of view, Radio has the following critical advantages over print media:

  • It is immediate
  • It requires no effort or skills on the part of the listener
  • It can be easily accessed while driving, taking advantage of a captive audience
  • It is flexible
  • It is targeted
  • It creates trust and loyalty
  • It is affordable

There are three basic ways to take advantage of this advertising medium

1. Loose Spots

These are typically pre-recorded commercials that can include music and sound effects. The commercials are booked within time channels, but are not broadcast at specific times.

2. Feature Sponsorships

Features include the news, the eco report, the weather, the traffic report, the fishing report and the like. Specialised features can also be created and tailor-made for clients. These features, which are broadcast at specific times, deal with matters of interest to the listeners and create greater listener attention.

3. Competitions

Competitions create excitement and encourage listeners to keep listening to the station for the duration of the competition. Competitions also lend themselves to cross-media advertising. For example, a client wanting to drive traffic to a web site can place clues for the radio competition on that web site, encouraging customers to visit the site.
